I saw a picture on Pinterest of some crocheted coasters with a felt star sewed on. I think they looked so cute. Would make a perfect gift. But there was no pattern, just the photo. So I started working on a pattern for the perfect flat circle with dc stitches. My biggest problem was the join. No matter what I did the join was visible. Until I found this technique:
http://www.cre8tioncrochet.com/2012/12/seamless-crochet-rounds/
Round 1: Start with a magic circle, chain 2, dc 13 into the circle, slst into top of chain 2 to end the round. (14)
Round 2: chain 2, 2 dc in the second st from the hook (leaving 1 st free) 2 dc in every st until you reach the ch 2, 2 dc in the free st (the one you skipped at the beginning) slst in top of first dc of the round. (28)
Round 3: chain 2, 2 dc in the second st from the hook (leaving 1 st free) *1dc in next st, 2 dc in next st* repeat from * to * till you reach the ch 2, 1 dc in the free st, slst in top of first dc. (42)
Cut the yarn, fasten of and weave in ends.
Cut a star out of felt and sew it on the coaster. You may want to block the coaster before you attach the star.
